INFORMATION FOR ENTREPRENEURS
Angel investors are high net worth individuals who invest in high risk, early stage ventures by reserving a portion of their total investment portfolios to provide emerging companies with capital through direct, private investments. Their goals are to obtain higher returns than the typical public markets provide as well as to help entrepreneurs. Most angels contribute their time and experience to help the entrepreneurs with whom they have invested.
Approximately 50 Idaho angels have come together to form the Boise Angel Alliance. Members of the Alliance along with several funds they have formed are interested in investing in early-stage, high-growth-potential Southwest Idaho companies. If you would like for us to consider your firm for an investment, we strongly encourage you to first review the other information linked to this page, especially our investment criteria.
Please note we do not accept applications from companies located outside of Idaho and Eastern Oregon unless led by a member group of the Angel Capital Association located in the States of Utah, Montana, Oregon and Washington or in the provinces of British Columbia and Alberta. In that case your lead angel group will invite us to consider co-investment with them. If your company is not in Idaho, you may wish to visit the Angel Capital Association web site for a list of groups in your area.
We want to be helpful to entrepreneurs. We have found that many who apply to us are not yet ready to submit to us. You can improve your chances of success by taking advantage of the help available to you:
1. The Alliance has made arrangements with the Boise State office of the Idaho Small Business Development Center to assist entrepreneurs in developing their business plans and investment pitch at no charge. Many of the entrepreneurs who have received funding through the Alliance have first received assistance from the Small Business Development Center. Call their office at 208-426-3875 and ask to make an appointment with Center Director Betti Newburn to take advantage of this opportunity for no cost assistance.
2. You may email Alliance Administrator, Kevin Learned (kelearned@gmail.com) and/or Screening Committee Chair Garrett Goldberg (ggoldberg@gmail.com) prior to submitting your application. They will be happy to discuss your business with you, give you an informal opinion of the likelihood of your business plan being considered by us, and offer suggestions as to how you might improve your plan before submission.
